Can I Apply For ICAN With A Third Class

I have heard a lot of students ask if with their BSc Third Class they can apply for ICAN and how much will ICAN cost, and also how many years will it take to be ICAN certified.

I will say yes you can, but you should check if the school you are applying to has ICAN accreditation.

As for the years to be spent depends on what you study but if its accounting it will take you two exams (which is one year).

But I must say that anyone can actually start ICAN, even without a BSc, but then where you will start from will depend largely on what you studied in school.

Otherwise if you have the cash, I'll advice you apply for ACCA so u can take advantage of the Oxford Brookes Bsc in Applied Accounting in order to stand a chance to get a better grade.

But you must know that ICAN is not a joke. I'm not the type that will advice someone with D7 in maths, E8 in Physics, D7 in biology, to keep pursuing their medical ambition. I know of people who spent years doing ICAN meant for just 2 to 3yrs and ended up frustrated.

If you go for ICAN with the same rate that earned you a third class, you will likely end up frustrated. But if you insist you want to be chartered, then here is a recommendation.

  1. Go back to basic accounting, if possible O' level accounting, and make sure you understand the rules of debit and credit VERY VERY VERY well. Master it properly ...not just memorizing its applications
  2. Go on you tube and create a program for yourself. Download sufficient videos on each of the accounting areas, from elementary book keeping to cashbook, petty-cash analysis, suspense account, control account, partnership account, company account, joint ventures, public sector, and so on. I repeat, understand and master them, don't just memorize the captions and formats.
  3. Download sample ICAN questions from here so you'd know what you are up against.

When you have done this and are satisfied, you can now do ICAN. If you cannot still attempt sample ICAN questions for the Basic level, then I'll advice you humble yourself and go for what could be up your speed.

I wish you well.

We have lost a rare gem as his friends and course mates have described him as an Intelligent and loving person.
